Cog·nent: \käg-uǝnt\ n 1: knowledge or understanding of the interplay between humans and technology 2: the state of being in sync with technology in real time, as it evolves.
In 1995, a tectonic shift was taking shape beneath the very foundation of the business world. Although few could imagine how radically the Internet would reshape the way businesses operated, a handful of entrepreneurs were already venturing into the digital frontier - some with concrete ideas of the profound changes about to occur and others with looser hypotheses of how the World Wide Web might someday change the very essence of business. It was into this nascent niche that a small company named DigiMex began leveraging its international expertise in delivering business computer systems to companies on both sides of the U.S./Mexico border.
As DigiMex honed its roster of services in this emerging market, the principals soon realized that geographical boundaries were disappearing at an exponential rate as business relationships transitioned from regional enterprises to global ones. So DigiMex launched a parallel venture under the iMerlin.com brand, growing it into the premiere online development company for companies operating along the U.S./Mexico business corridor during the highly-charged and dynamic evolution of the NAFTA era. In time, as the Internet began to displace traditional computer and server deployment, the company transmuted into Cognent and shifted its focus from traditional on-site technology products and services to what would become a full-spectrum of cloud-based business services customized to meet the individual needs of industrial, commercial, healthcare and retail clients.
Today, Cognent continues to lead the way in digital business solutions with a host of online services engineered to maximize the way business operate both internally and externally. Our focus remains envisioning and engineering innovative business services that keep pace with the myriad ancillary components that inform and shape the way business operate in the digital world. Today’s business owners can access technology on an “as-needed” basis, picking and choosing the components that best suit their needs at any given time. Landlines are quickly giving way to wireless services on every level of the business field, and companies are no longer at the mercy of a handful of providers. The daunting capital investments of the past are being replaced by increasingly competitive alternatives in telecommunication technologies delivered via efficient, non-site-specific carriers. Even the idea of the traditional storefront and typical office are being replaced by mobile, on-demand and home-based spaces where employees and consultants work and meet digitally. These evolving realities are integral to how Cognent designs and develops its services: we are wholly committed to being pioneers in delivering the kind of technology that addresses how businesses are responding to change internally and externally, with clients and employees alike.
